The Latin term "balsamum" refers to an aromatic resin and something that acts as a reliever or healer with soothing properties. The modern word "balm" is one derivative for balsamum but so is "balsamic" which refers to the wood resin of the barrels in which balsamic vinegar is aged. The correct name for authentic balsamic vinegar is Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale in Italian.
Until the mid-twentieth century balsamic vinegar was a rare delicacy produced by a few prosperous families living in and near the towns of Modena and Reggio in Northern Italy. The families presented small vials of their vinegar as a symbol of peace and friendship to special friends, visiting dignitaries and even bequeathed it to their daughters as a valuable part of their dowry.
Bistro Blends Orlando Blackberry Balsamic Wine Sauce
Bistro Blends Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar is the absolute best (in our opinion) when deglazing meat pans and making a flavorful sauce. After cooking the meat or fowl (superb with pork loin, roast, duck or chops) transfer it to a plate and place the plate in a warm oven. If needed, skim excess fat from the pan. Add a splash of
Bistro Blends Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar and a splash of your favorite red wine. Reduce over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it thickens a bit.
Slice the meat, arrange on the serving platter and pour the blackberry and wine sauce right down the center of the slices. Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley for a spectacular (and easy) main course.
